The Cugir Arms WASR-10/63 is a Romanian-made semi-automatic AKM-pattern rifle produced by the Cugir Arms Factory in Romania and imported into the U.S. mainly by Century Arms. It is chambered in 7.62×39mm and is based on the Romanian military PM md.63 (Model 1963 AKM) design. The “10/63” designation is important because it typically indicates that the rifle was assembled using surplus Romanian military parts kits (often from 1960s–1980s production guns) combined with a new civilian semi-auto receiver and barrel. These rifles use the classic AK gas-operated, long-stroke piston system with a rotating bolt, feeding from standard detachable 30-round magazines, and they retain the rugged stamped-receiver construction and chrome-lined barrel common to Eastern Bloc service rifles. The result is a gun that feels very close to a military AK in both design and durability, even though it is built for civilian import compliance.
