Following the German invasion and occupation of Belgium in May 1940, the famous Fabrique Nationale (FN) plant in Herstal was placed under the military administration of Waffenamt inspectors and forced to produce sidearms for the Wehrmacht. Designated by the German military as the Pistole 640(b), the FN Browning Hi-Power was prized by German officers, Fallschirmjäger (paratroopers), and Waffen-SS personnel for its superior 13-round magazine capacity and natural ergonomics. This mid-to-late war production example features the characteristic military wartime blued finish, fixed rear notch sight, frame-mounted lanyard loop, and correct WaA140 Waffenamt inspector acceptance stamps found across the slide, frame, trigger guard, and barrel.
