Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Serving as the primary battle rifle of the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) in World War I, the U.S. Model of 1917 (M1917 Enfield) equipped roughly 75% of American doughboys fighting in the trenches of Europe. Redesigned directly from the British Pattern 1914 (P14) rifle to accommodate the standard American .30-06 Springfield service cartridge, the M1917 was manufactured across three primary facilities: Winchester, Remington, and the massive Eddystone Arsenal in Pennsylvania (operated under Remington Arms Company of Delaware). Engineered w/ an exceptionally strong Modified Mauser action, cock-on-closing dog-leg bolt, robust protective ears shielding an effective aperture rear sight, and a high 6-round magazine capacity, the Eddystone 1917 earned a legendary reputation for long-range accuracy and battlefield ruggedness. Celebrated by military historians and famous marksmen alike (including Sergeant Alvin York), the M1917 remains a cornerstone of 20th-century U.S. military firearms history.

This specific example is an authentic Eddystone U.S. Model of 1917 manufactured in September 1918, bearing serial number 1090444. Chambered in .30-06 Springfield, it features its original factory 26-inch Eddystone barrel dated "9-18" behind the front sight post alongside a crisp U.S. Flaming Ordnance Bomb proof stamp. Outfitted w/ its original full-length American walnut stock w/ finger grooves and an original U.S. military web sling, the receiver ring displays razor-sharp "U.S. MODEL OF 1917 EDDYSTONE" nomenclature and matching "E" Eddystone sub-inspection markings across major component forgings. The military metal finish displays handsome historical preservation w/ smooth receiver patina, deep barrel coverage, and clean stock contours. Mechanically, the cock-on-closing action cycles w/ robust precision, safety mechanisms engage firmly, and the 26-inch barrel bore remains exceptionally clean w/ well-defined rifling throughout. Offered complete w/ its canvas web sling, this World War I Eddystone 1917 represents a fantastic turn-key acquisition for U.S. martial arms purists and WWI military collectors.
