Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Feinwerkbau Model 65 is a German-made, competition-grade .177 (4.5mm) air pistol produced from 1965 to 1997, and it went on to become one of the most influential 10-meter target pistols ever developed. Designed specifically by Feinwerkbau for precision sport shooting, its reputation is largely built on its advanced recoil system for the time. Instead of a traditional spring-piston “kick,” the entire upper action of the pistol moves rearward on rails during firing, effectively canceling out recoil almost completely. This sledge system is a defining feature of the Model 65 and a major reason it dominated early precision air pistol competition. Mechanically, it is a sidelever-cocked, single-shot design where the shooter operates a side-mounted lever, loads a pellet directly into the breech, and then fires through a highly refined trigger system that allows very light, competition-level pull weights. The sights are fully adjustable match-grade irons, consisting of a blade front and square-notch rear setup built for precise alignment and fine adjustments. Throughout its production life, Feinwerkbau continued refining the platform with improved anatomical grips, available in left- and right-hand configurations, upgraded rear sight components, and even occasional short-barrel variants used for training and specialized shooting disciplines. One of the Model 65’s strongest qualities is its exceptional accuracy.

Even by modern standards, it is capable of extremely tight 10-meter groups thanks to its consistent power plant, high-quality barrel, and nearly recoil-free firing cycle. This level of precision made it a staple in club-level shooting as well as international competition, helping establish Feinwerkbau as one of the leading names in match airgun development. In simple terms, the Model 65 represents a mechanically sophisticated and highly refined match pistol from the golden era of spring-piston target airguns, and it remains respected today as a benchmark design in the evolution of Olympic-style precision air pistols.
