The Fox Sterlingworth stands as an icon of American double-gun manufacturing, originally designed by Ansley H. Fox in Philadelphia and revered for its robust boxlock action, legendary mechanical strength, and exceptional field performance. After Savage Arms acquired A.H. Fox in 1929, production moved to Utica, New York, where Savage continued producing the Sterlingworth with the same trusted internal lockwork and special alloy forged steel barrels. These Utica-made Fox shotguns remain favorite working doubles and classic upland game hunting firearms among traditional sportsman and shotgun collectors.

Manufactured during the Savage Utica era, this 12-gauge Sterlingworth features matching serial numbers stamped on the lower tang, forearm iron, frame water table, and barrel flats (137901). It is fitted with 28-inch special alloy forged steel barrels marked "SAVAGE ARMS CORPORATION, UTICA, N.Y. U.S.A." and "PROOF TESTED 12 GAUGE / 2 3/4 INCH CHAMBER". The shotgun displays honest, authentic field patina across the receiver and barrels, tight lockup on the action, crisp double triggers, and solid checkered walnut stocks showing classic character. This vintage American side-by-side double barrel is ready for field duty or display in an American shotgun collection.
