The Heritage Rough Rider is a single-action rimfire revolver designed to capture the look, feel, and operation of classic Old West six-shooters while remaining affordable and practical for modern shooters. Produced by Heritage Manufacturing, it is one of the most accessible entry points into traditional revolver shooting. Chambered primarily in .22 Long Rifle, with many models also including an interchangeable .22 Magnum cylinder, the Rough Rider operates on a single-action mechanism, requiring the hammer to be manually cocked before each shot, just like historic frontier revolvers. Built with a variety of frame materials depending on the model—including aluminum alloy or steel frames paired with steel barrels and cylinders—it is offered in a wide range of barrel lengths, finishes, and grip styles, from basic blued models with synthetic grips to more decorative versions featuring wood grips or themed engravings. One of its defining safety features, setting it apart from original 19th-century designs, is a manual safety lever mounted on the frame, allowing the revolver to be safely carried with all chambers loaded—something not traditionally recommended with older single-action revolvers. 
 
The Rough Rider uses a fixed-sight system and typically holds six rounds in its cylinder, with a simple loading process involving a side-loading gate and a manual ejection rod. While not built to the same refinement or tight tolerances as higher-end single-action revolvers, it is widely appreciated for its reliability, ease of use, and extremely low operating cost thanks to inexpensive rimfire ammunition.
