The Knight’s Armament Company SR-25 Mk 11 Mod 0 occupies an important position in the development of the modern semi-automatic precision rifle. The SR-25 was created through the collaboration of Eugene Stoner and C. Reed Knight Jr., combining principles of Stoner’s original AR-10 with later refinements developed through the AR-15 and M16 family. Knight’s Armament states that the SR-25 was fielded experimentally during the early 1990s and subsequently refined into the Mk 11 Mod 0 for use by United States Special Operations Command. USSOCOM formally adopted the system in May 2000, establishing it as a genuine military precision-rifle platform rather than merely a commercial target rifle styled after a service weapon.
