Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Sweden obtained a license to manufacture a variant of the 1903 design, known domestically as the Husqvarna M1907, and began production in 1917 to address both military and civilian needs. Husqvarna also produced military pistols for Colombia during the 1930s when FN was reluctant to resume production. By the time production ceased in 1942, Sweden had manufactured a total of 89,230 pistols. Early Husqvarna M1907 models were marked with "Browning's Patent" or "System Browning," but this practice was discontinued after World War I due to FN's exclusive rights to use John Browning's name for marketing firearms. The Swedish military initially designated the pistol as M07, and it served as the standard sidearm until 1940, when it was replaced by the Lahti L-35 (pistol M40) and designated as a substitute standard. The M07 was later reactivated in the 1980s to replace the Lahti L-35 pistols, which suffered from cracked bolts due to using a more powerful 9 mm P cartridge (9 mm M39B) adopted as standard in the 1960s.
