The Inglis Browning Hi-Power Mk I is a Canadian-produced version of the classic FN Browning Hi-Power 9×19mm pistol, manufactured by John Inglis and Company in Toronto during World War II (1944–1945) under license from FN Herstal. It was produced to fill Allied demand after Belgium fell to German occupation, which cut off FN’s original production line. The design is based on John Browning’s final pistol concept, later completed by FN engineer Dieudonné Saive, and it became one of the earliest high-capacity (13-round) military pistols in widespread service. The Inglis factory produced roughly 150,000–170,000 pistols, issued primarily to British, Canadian, Commonwealth, and Chinese forces.

These pistols are typically marked on the slide with “BROWNING FN 9MM HP INGLIS CANADA”, and many carry military acceptance stamps and wartime serial formats (often six-character sequences with structured prefixes depending on contract).
