The Inglis, Canada Browning/FN No.1 MkI* (Hi-Power) is a historically significant military service pistol produced during World War II and represents one of the most important wartime variants of the legendary Browning Hi-Power design. Manufactured by John Inglis and Company in Toronto, Canada, under license from Fabrique Nationale Herstal, the No.1 MkI* was produced to supply Allied forces with a reliable, modern, high-capacity sidearm during the war years. Chambered in 9mm Luger, the pistol was based on the design developed by John Moses Browning and completed after his death by Dieudonné Saive, incorporating one of the first successful double-stack magazine systems in a military handgun. The Inglis No.1 MkI* features a 4.9-inch barrel, a 13-round detachable magazine, a steel frame and slide, and a rugged military finish designed to withstand harsh combat conditions. The MkI* variant is distinguished by its tangent rear sight configuration and wartime production characteristics, including simplified machining and finishes suited to mass wartime production.
