Interarms, led by Samuel Cummings, developed the Virginian Dragoon (produced 1973–1984, with production starting around 1976 in the USA) as a bold and purposeful evolution of the classic Colt Single Action Army (SAA), blending time-honored design with more modern production methods. While earlier “Virginian” models had been manufactured in Switzerland by Hammerli and imported into the United States, the Virginian Dragoon emerged under Interarms’ U.S.-based operations as a heavier-duty, USA-made alternative that retained the spirit of the traditional single-action revolver while refining it for greater strength and durability. The stainless steel variant, chambered in the formidable .44 Magnum, stands as a particularly striking example of this philosophy. Its 7 1/2-inch barrel lends the revolver an imposing, well-balanced profile, while the stainless finish enhances both its visual presence and its resistance to the elements. Smooth walnut grips add a touch of classic refinement, complementing the rugged steel frame and reinforcing its Old West-inspired character.
