Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Based on John Browning's foundational designs and engineered for production by Harry Howland in 1915, the Ithaca Model 37 Featherlight stands as one of the most distinguished pump-action shotgun platforms in American hunting history. Officially launched in 1937, the Model 37 became world-renowned for its bottom-loading and bottom-ejection mechanism. By utilizing a single port on the underside of the forged steel receiver for both loading and shell ejection, the interior receiver mechanics remained completely sealed against dirt, rain, and environmental elements while providing seamless ambidextrous functionality. Paired w/ a lightweight receiver design, crisp game scene engravings, and exceptionally smooth slide movement, the Model 37 Featherlight gained legendary status among American bird and upland game hunters.
This specific example is an authentic vintage Ithaca Model 37 Featherlight, bearing serial number 787259. Chambered in the lightweight, fast-handling 20 Gauge (2-3/4" shells only), it features a 25-inch plain steel barrel constricted to a Full choke, iconic orange Raybar front sight bead, grooved wooden slide handle, and detailed factory game scene roll-engravings depicting pointer dogs and waterfowl. Clear factory roll-marks include "ITHACA GUN CO., INC., ITHACA, N.Y.- MODEL 37" and "FEATHERLIGHT USE 20 GA-2 3/4 SHELLS ONLY" on the barrel flank. Preserved in great overall condition w/ clean blued finish coverage, smooth walnut wood, crisp pump action mechanics, and a bright, shiny bore, this 1961 20 Gauge Model 37 Featherlight is a fantastic classic for the field or any vintage American shotgun collection.
