Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this ULTRA SCARCE side-by-side shotgun for a penny-start auction; this is the Ithaca NID (New Ithaca Double) Field.
The Ithaca New Ithaca Double (NID) Field Grade chambered in 10 Gauge is an exceptionally scarce and highly desirable American side-by-side shotgun, with production believed to have been limited to only approximately 200 examples in this configuration. Produced during a period when demand for 10 Gauge sporting shotguns was already declining, very few were manufactured compared to the far more common 12 and 16 Gauge NIDs. As a result, surviving examples are rarely encountered today, especially in original and high-condition form. Collectors strongly pursue these large-frame NIDs due to their combination of genuine rarity, robust construction, and historical significance as one of the finest American-made double guns of the early 20th century. Because many were heavily used for waterfowl and field hunting, well-preserved examples have become increasingly difficult to source, placing high-condition 10 Gauge NIDs into an upper tier of desirability among advanced Ithaca and American double-gun collectors.

Introduced in 1925 as a replacement for the earlier Flues Model, the NID was engineered with a significantly reinforced action, making it one of the strongest boxlock-style doubles of its era. It was offered in an extensive range of gauges—from 12 and 16 down to 20, 28, and .410 bore—along with multiple grades and configurations, allowing it to serve everyone from working sportsmen to discerning collectors seeking finely finished sporting arms. Mechanically, the NID featured a robust rotary bolt locking system, coil-spring powered internal hammers, and forged steel frames, all contributing to its legendary durability and reliability.
