The Izhevsk M91/30 Mosin-Nagant is a Soviet-era bolt-action service rifle produced at the Izhevsk Arms Factory in Russia, and it represents one of the most mass-produced military rifles of the 20th century. Chambered in 7.62×54mmR, the M91/30 is a modernization of the earlier M1891 Mosin design, standardized in 1930 to simplify production, update sighting systems, and improve manufacturing efficiency for large-scale military use. The rifle operates on a manually operated, rotating bolt system with a five-round internal magazine, loaded via stripper clips. It features a 29-inch barrel, full-length hardwood stock, and simple fixed military sights with a hooded front post and rear ladder sight graduated in meters. Izhevsk production is identified by the arrow-in-triangle factory mark, and these rifles were produced in extremely large numbers, especially during World War II, when simplified wartime machining and rapid production methods were prioritized over finish quality. Many examples were later arsenal-refurbished, meaning parts were often reworked, reblued, or “force-matched” to bring them back into service or storage standards.
