The Mossberg Model 42M(b) is a uniquely styled, post-World War II civilian training and utility rifle manufactured between 1945 and 1947. Its most distinctive feature is the beautiful, military-inspired full-length Mannlicher walnut stock, which extends all the way to the muzzle and gives the rifle a robust, heavy-duty appearance. Built for precision rimfire target shooting, it is equipped with a smooth bolt-action mechanism and a highly innovative steel trapdoor butt-plate designed to securely store a spare seven-round magazine right inside the stock. This clever combination of practical utility, rugged design, and vintage craftsmanship makes it an incredibly charming and highly sought-after piece of American rimfire history.
