The Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag 12-gauge is a legendary, purpose-built pump-action workhorse that holds the historic distinction of being the world's very first shotgun engineered specifically to handle heavy 3.5-inch super-magnum shells. Designed primarily to dominate the waterfowl marshes and turkey woods, its defining engineering feature is a factory over-bored barrel that is expanded internally to 10-gauge dimensions. This unique over-boring significantly reduces pellet deformation, enhances pattern density, and dampens the punishing recoil associated with heavy magnum loads. Built on a lightweight, high-strength aluminum alloy receiver, the 835 utilizes Mossberg’s iconic, ambidextrous top-tang safety and twin action bars to ensure flawless, non-binding mechanical cycling under the harshest environmental conditions. However, because of its expanded internal barrel dimensions, it requires strict adherence to safety protocols, meaning standard 12-gauge slugs must never be fired through its over-bored field barrels without swapping to a dedicated, fully rifled slug barrel.
