Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Designed originally by Sergei Simonov in the Soviet Union during the closing years of World War II, the SKS (Samozaryadny Karabin sistemy Simonova) was adopted by the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) as the Type 56 Carbine in 1956. Manufactured under license across state arsenals—such as Factory 0144—under the umbrella of NORINCO (China North Industries Corporation), the Type 56 became one of the most widely produced infantry rifles in modern military history. Built w/ a short-stroke gas piston operating system, tilting bolt lockup, chrome-lined barrel, and an integrated 10-round fixed magazine designed for stripper-clip loading, the Type 56 SKS is legendary for its battle-proven reliability and rugged construction. Imported into the United States prior to the 1994 import bans by China Small Arms Imports (CSI) of Ontario, California, these military-spec carbines remain central pieces for military surplus marksmen and collectors. This exceptionally clean, all-matching example of the NORINCO Type 56 SKS was manufactured at Factory 0144 in China, bearing serial number "224734". Chambered in 7.62x39mm, it features a 20.5-inch chrome-lined barrel, folding spike bayonet, 1,000-meter adjustable tangent rear sight, and original Asian hardwood military furniture. The rifle displays near-pristine physical condition w/ deep factory military bluing, crisp receiver stampings, tight gas piston assembly, and a mirror-bright chrome-lined bore. All primary components—including the receiver, bolt carrier, top receiver cover, and hardwood stock—feature matching partial serial "4734" stampings. Complete w/ an attached canvas military sling and under-barrel cleaning rod, this turn-key Type 56 SKS offers an outstanding, collectible military surplus package for ComBloc firearms purists and surplus shooters.
