The Pioneer Arms Corp. PPS43-C is a semi-automatic, closed-bolt pistol manufactured in Radom, Poland, that serves as a faithful civilian recreation of the iconic Soviet PPS-43 (Pistolet-Pulemyot Sudayeva), originally designed by Alexei Sudayev during the brutal Siege of Leningrad in World War II. True to its historic roots, the firearm utilizes crude but highly effective cold-rolled, stamped sheet metal and riveting for its receiver and ventilated barrel shroud, mirroring the low-cost, high-efficiency manufacturing methods developed by the Soviet Union to churn out infantry weapons rapidly. To comply with U.S. federal import regulations and ATF classifications, Pioneer Arms redesigned the original open-bolt, fully automatic machine gun action into a semi-automatic, hammer-fired, closed-bolt system with an integrated blocking bar. Furthermore, while the original military submachine gun featured a functional top-folding steel stock for paratroopers and reconnaissance units, the commercial PPS43-C has its stock permanently pinned and tack-welded in the folded position, with the release button deactivated, legally defining it as a pistol due to its 9.8-inch barrel. 
 
While historically chambered in the high-velocity, bottlenecked 7.62x25mm Tokarev cartridge, the 9x19mm Parabellum version adapts this harsh, brutalist Eastern Bloc design to the modern shooter by utilizing curved steel magazine bodies—which Pioneer Arms has shipped both with and without internal spacers across different production batches—making it an incredibly unique, soft-shooting historical novelty and a prime candidate for collectors seeking a piece of military history with the ease of standard pistol ownership.
