The Remington Model 700 Mountain SS is a lightweight, all-weather hunting rifle built on the proven Model 700 bolt-action platform, designed specifically for hunters who prioritize reduced weight without sacrificing strength or accuracy. Introduced as the stainless-steel evolution of the original Mountain Rifle concept, the Mountain SS features a 22-inch stainless steel light-contour barrel that significantly reduces carry weight while maintaining the Model 700's renowned accuracy. It utilizes the classic dual-opposed locking lug bolt with a recessed bolt face, creating Remington's signature "three rings of steel" surrounding the cartridge case head for exceptional strength and consistent lockup. The rifle is equipped with an externally adjustable X-Mark Pro trigger, a hinged floorplate magazine, and a Bell & Carlson aramid-fiber reinforced composite stock with an integral aluminum bedding block, providing excellent rigidity, weather resistance, and stability while keeping overall weight to approximately 6.5 pounds.
