The Rock Island Armory M1911 A1 FS XTM-22 is a full-size 1911-pattern pistol chambered in .22 WMR (.22 Magnum), built by Armscor (Rock Island Armory) as a heavily modified rimfire/magnum derivative of the traditional M1911A1 platform. Despite its external similarity to a GI-style 1911, it is not a standard Browning locked-breech design; instead, it uses a delayed-blowback system with a fixed barrel assembly, where the barrel is rigidly mounted inside a shrouded support structure and does not tilt during cycling. The slide is also significantly redesigned compared to a conventional 1911, featuring an open-top upper section and a barrel shroud system that replaces the front portion of a traditional slide assembly. This design is necessary to manage the higher pressure and different pressure curve of .22 WMR while maintaining reliable extraction and feeding in a 1911-sized frame.
