The ROF No. 5 Mk I, commonly known as the "Jungle Carbine," is a bolt-action military carbine chambered in .303 British, developed from the Lee-Enfield No. 4 and officially adopted by the British Army in 1944. Manufactured by the Royal Ordnance Factory (ROF) Fazakerley and BSA Shirley, the No. 5 Mk I features a shortened 18.8-inch barrel, distinctive conical flash hider, rubber recoil pad, lightened receiver, and a 10-round detachable magazine loaded with five-round stripper clips. Designed for airborne troops and jungle warfare, it saw service during the closing stages of World War II and later in the Malayan Emergency, earning a reputation for excellent handling, compact size, and rapid cycling.
