The Ruger Mini-14 Oklahoma Highway Patrol is one of the rarest and most desirable factory special-order variants of the iconic Mini-14, highly prized by advanced Ruger collectors for its limited production, unique law enforcement provenance, and distinctive factory features. Produced in the late 1970s and early 1980s for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, these rifles were built on the early 180-series Mini-14 platform and chambered in .223 Remington (5.56x45mm). Approximately 1,300 rifles were manufactured with "O.H.P." receiver markings, while an estimated 300 additional rifles were produced without the markings, making all Oklahoma Highway Patrol contract rifles exceptionally scarce. Distinguishing characteristics include a longer-than-standard walnut stock, M1 Carbine-style side sling cut, red rubber recoil pad, fiberglass handguard, and oiler compartment in the buttstock, features found on no standard-production Mini-14. Many examples also bear matching assembly numbers stamped into the stock, adding to their collector desirability. Because these rifles were purpose-built for a specific law enforcement agency and were produced in very limited numbers, authentic examples—especially those retaining their original configuration, factory features, and documented Oklahoma Highway Patrol provenance—are considered investment-grade collector pieces within the Ruger community. Their rarity, historical significance, and status as one of Ruger's most sought-after factory special-order Mini-14 variants have made the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Mini-14 a true centerpiece in advanced Mini-14 and law enforcement firearms collections.
