Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Savage Arms Corporation Model 6 series is a blued-finish, tube-fed rifle manufactured from 1938 until roughly 1968. Early Model 6A variants were built in Utica, New York, before Savage consolidated firearms production at its Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts, facility in 1946, ultimately moving to Westfield, Massachusetts, in 1960. Chambered for .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle cartridges, the rifle features a unique hybrid action: it functions as a manual repeater for Short and Long variants when the charging handle is pushed inward to lock the bolt, and operates as a semi-automatic with .22 Long Rifle when the handle is pulled outward. While budget-friendly retail-store clones used plain wood, premium early Savage-branded Model 6A rifles featured a walnut stock with distinct hand-checkered pistol grips, alongside post-war standard variations that utilized smooth wood as a cost-cutting measure. Famed for its unique "click-clack" lifter action that holds the bolt locked to the rear when the trigger is pulled and releases it forward when the trigger is let go, the Model 6 remains a highly collectible piece of mid-century American firearms engineering.
