Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Crafted in Japan by the renowned gunsmiths at Miroku for Sears, Roebuck & Co., this Hawken Model 292.51188 represents an exceptionally well-made rendition of the legendary 19th-century plains rifle. Built around a heavy 28-inch octagonal barrel chambered in the powerful .54 caliber black powder format, this rifle features a rich blued finish, a gold-accented scroll-engraved lockplate, and traditional double set triggers for a hair-thin target pull. Outfitted in a select walnut half-stock with a raised cheekpiece, solid brass crescent buttplate, brass nosecap, brass trigger guard, and a decorative brass patchbox on the buttstock right side, this Miroku-built Hawken combines traditional mountain man aesthetics with precision Japanese manufacturing. A fantastic choice for primitive season hunters and traditional black powder enthusiasts.
This specific example is an authentic Miroku-manufactured Sears Roebuck Hawken rifle bearing serial number 0129 (Model 292.51188). Chambered in .54 Caliber Black Powder, it features a 28-inch octagonal barrel, deep factory blued finish, gold-embellished lockplate, traditional percussion ignition, double set triggers, and a brass-trimmed walnut stock. The blued finish, gold lockplate accents, polished brass furniture, and walnut stock present in excellent overall condition, displaying smooth coverage and light era handling character. Mechanically, the hammer cocks firmly, the double set triggers function crisp, the nipple is clear, and the 28-inch octagonal .54 caliber bore remains clean with sharp rifling throughout. Offered as pictured, this Miroku Hawken represents a complete, ready-to-field black powder rifle acquisition.
