The Sig Sauer P228 is a compact, hammer-fired, double-action/single-action semi-automatic pistol chambered in 9×19mm, designed for military, law enforcement, and civilian defensive use. Introduced in the mid-to-late 1980s, the P228 features a lightweight anodized aluminum alloy frame paired with a stamped carbon steel slide and pinned breech block, reflecting Sig Sauer’s early production design approach. Its dimensions—approximately 7 inches in overall length with a 3.9-inch barrel—strike a balance between concealability and shootability, making it well-suited for both duty carry and discreet personal defense. The pistol operates via a traditional Browning short-recoil, locked-breech system and utilizes a double-stack magazine. Controls include a decocking lever, slide stop, and magazine release, all ergonomically placed for ease of use, with no manual safety. The P228 is widely regarded for its smooth double-action trigger pull, crisp single-action break, excellent mechanical accuracy, and durable construction.
