The Sig Sauer P230 is a classic compact semi-automatic pistol developed as an elegant and reliable concealed-carry sidearm, combining refined European styling, slim dimensions, and high-quality all-metal construction in a package that became widely respected among law-enforcement officers, private citizens, and enthusiasts. Introduced in the late 1970s as a successor to earlier compact pistols, the P230 was designed primarily for discreet carry and police plainclothes use, and it was chambered most commonly in .380 ACP, with some versions also produced in .32 ACP. The pistol uses a straight-blowback operating system, which allows a simple, durable mechanical layout while contributing to excellent inherent accuracy through its fixed barrel design. Feeding is from a single-stack detachable magazine, typically holding 7 rounds in .380 ACP, and the slim grip profile makes the pistol notably comfortable for a wide range of hand sizes. The P230 operates with a traditional double-action/single-action trigger system, featuring a frame-mounted decocking lever that safely lowers the hammer without requiring a manual safety, a control arrangement that became a hallmark of Sig Sauer pistols. 
 
Constructed with an aluminum alloy frame and steel slide, the pistol balances durability with moderate carry weight, while its smooth contours and rounded edges make it especially well-suited for concealed holster use.
