The Smith & Wesson Performance Center Model 627 Lew Horton Special Edition is a limited-production N-frame double-action revolver chambered in .357 Magnum and .38 Special, developed through a collaboration between the Smith & Wesson Performance Center and distributor Lew Horton Distributing during the late 1990s. Built on Smith & Wesson's large stainless steel N-frame, the revolver features an 8-shot cylinder, a significant increase over the traditional six-round .357 Magnum revolver, while maintaining the strength and durability required for full-power magnum ammunition. Depending on the specific Lew Horton production run, examples were offered with 2?-inch, 5-inch, or 6½-inch barrels, with certain variants featuring slab-sided heavy barrels, Mag-Na-Port factory porting, removable barrel weight systems, or unfluted cylinders. Each revolver was hand-assembled and tuned by the Performance Center, incorporating a refined double-action/single-action trigger, precision-fitted internal components, chamfered charge holes for faster reloading, a fully adjustable rear sight, interchangeable front sight, and premium grips.
