The Smith & Wesson Model 10-9 Royal Hong Kong Police is a fascinating law-enforcement contract revolver that combines the legendary reliability of the Model 10 with the historical significance of service with one of the world's most recognized police organizations. Manufactured by Smith & Wesson during the late 1980s, the Model 10-9 is chambered in .38 Special and built on the proven K-frame with a six-shot cylinder, double-action/single-action operation, and a 4-inch barrel. Revolvers produced for the Royal Hong Kong Police are distinguished by their "RHKP" property markings and unique rack numbers stamped on the backstrap, along with a factory-installed lanyard ring and, on many examples, a tapered "pencil" barrel specified by the Hong Kong contract rather than the heavier barrel commonly found on commercial Model 10-9 revolvers. These revolvers served the Royal Hong Kong Police during the final years of British administration before Hong Kong's 1997 transfer to China, after which many were traded back to Smith & Wesson and later sold on the U.S. surplus market, often without import markings.
