The Smith & Wesson Model 19-9 Combat Magnum is a modern continuation of one of Smith & Wesson’s most iconic revolver designs. Originally developed with input from legendary lawman and shooter Bill Jordan, the Model 19 brought .357 Magnum performance to the lighter K-frame platform, creating a revolver that became highly respected among law enforcement officers, outdoorsmen, and defensive shooters. The 19-9 version represents the reintroduced Classic Series configuration, retaining the traditional Combat Magnum profile while incorporating modern Smith & Wesson production features. As a Combat Magnum, the Model 19-9 offers the desirable balance that made the original Model 19 famous: a lighter and handier frame than the larger N-frame .357s, but with full .357 Magnum capability. Modern 19-9 examples commonly feature a blued finish, adjustable rear sight, red ramp front sight, shrouded ejector rod, round-butt grip frame, and wood stocks, giving the revolver a classic appearance with updated manufacturing. For collectors and shooters, the 19-9 is appealing because it bridges the gap between vintage Smith & Wesson revolver heritage and current-production usability. It is not as collectible as early pinned-and-recessed Model 19 variations, but it remains a desirable modern Combat Magnum for those who want the look, handling, and legacy of the original with the practicality of a newer-production revolver.
