Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson Model 30, also known as the .32 Hand Ejector, is a double/single-action revolver chambered in .32 S&W Long and built on the Improved I-frame. It features a 6-shot fluted cylinder with a nominal length of 1.25". In the postwar years, it was offered with 2", 3", 3-1/4", 4", 4-1/4", or 6" pinned barrel lengths and was offered in either a blue or nickel finish. It is fitted with walnut grips featuring a diamond around the screw escutcheon or hard rubber grips, on either round or square butt frames. Originally built on the 5-screw I-frame, the Model 30 transitioned to the improved I-frame with a coil mainspring in 4-screw and later 3-screw configurations, before ultimately evolving into the slightly longer 3-screw J-frame. A small Smith & Wesson trademark is found on the frame under the thumbpiece. It was offered with a .240" smooth trigger, later changed to a .240" serrated trigger, along with a .240" wide hammer. The revolver is encountered with all three variations of the flat latch thumbpiece. Early examples feature a round blade front sight, later changed to a 1/10" serrated ramp front sight paired with a square notch rear sight in late 1956 to early 1957. The postwar serial numbers fall in the 536685 to 826977 range within the .32 Hand Ejector series, incorporating postwar improvements, and production spanned circa 1948 to 1976.
