The Smith & Wesson Model 52-2 is one of the finest American target pistols ever produced, a precision-built semi-automatic handgun engineered specifically for bullseye competition and renowned for its exceptional accuracy, superb trigger quality, and elegant craftsmanship. Produced by Smith & Wesson from the early 1960s into the 1990s, the 52-2 was the improved version of the original Model 52 and was chambered exclusively for .38 Special Mid-Range wadcutter ammunition, using flush-seated target loads rather than conventional .38 Special revolver cartridges. This highly specialized chambering gave the pistol remarkably soft recoil, clean target-cutting holes, and excellent consistency, making it ideal for precision one-handed bullseye shooting. The Model 52-2 operates as a single-action, recoil-operated semi-automatic with a five-round detachable magazine, and its design was carefully tuned around the wadcutter cartridge for flawless feeding and repeatable lockup.
