The Smith & Wesson Model 586-2 is one of the most respected variants of the classic L-frame revolver series, combining the power of the .357 Magnum cartridge with the outstanding balance, durability, and craftsmanship that made the Model 586 a favorite among law-enforcement officers, competitive shooters, and revolver enthusiasts. Produced by Smith & Wesson during the 1980s, the 586-2 represents an early engineering variation of the original Model 586 and is highly regarded for its traditional construction and smooth action. Built on the medium-large L-frame, the revolver was specifically designed to withstand prolonged use with full-power .357 Magnum ammunition while maintaining the handling characteristics of the company’s popular K-frame revolvers. The Model 586-2 features a deep blued carbon-steel finish, a six-shot cylinder, adjustable target sights, and a full underlug barrel that adds weight beneath the bore to reduce muzzle rise and improve recoil control. Available in several barrel lengths, including the popular 4-inch, 6-inch, and 8?-inch configurations, the revolver offered excellent versatility for duty use, hunting, competition, and recreational shooting.
