The Smith & Wesson Model 645 is a full-size semi-automatic pistol chambered in .45 ACP, introduced in 1985 as one of Smith & Wesson’s first entries into the American-made double-action .45 ACP market. Developed from the earlier Model 39/59 pistol lineage, the Model 645 was designed as a rugged duty and service handgun featuring a double-action/single-action trigger system, a stainless steel slide and frame, fixed sights, and a large 8-round single-stack magazine. Built with Smith & Wesson’s traditional third-generation pistol design features, the 645 incorporated a slide-mounted safety/decocker, ambidextrous magazine release, and a durable all-stainless construction that provided excellent corrosion resistance. Its heavy frame and full-size dimensions helped tame the recoil of the .45 ACP cartridge, making it accurate, controllable, and well-suited for law enforcement, military-style use, and defensive applications.
