The Smith & Wesson Model 422 Target is a classic American blowback-operated, semi-automatic .22 LR target pistol produced from 1987 to 1996. Designed as Smith & Wesson's entry into the mid-priced rimfire target market, the Model 422 features a unique fixed, low-mounted barrel, lightweight aluminum alloy frame, steel slide, and exceptional balance that contribute to its excellent accuracy and mild recoil. The Target configuration is distinguished by its fully adjustable target sights and walnut grips, making it especially well suited for precision shooting and informal competition. Its innovative low bore axis also made the platform exceptionally popular as a suppressor host, as optics and sights remain unobstructed when a suppressor is installed.
