Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Manufactured between 1989 and 1996, the Smith & Wesson Model 622 stands out as one of the most innovative and uniquely engineered .22 LR rimfire target handguns ever developed by the historic Springfield armory. Utilizing an advanced low-bore-axis layout, the barrel is positioned below the recoil spring rather than above it, perfectly aligning recoil force straight into the shooter's palm and virtually eliminating muzzle rise. Engineered with an ultra-lightweight aircraft-grade alloy frame paired with a stainless steel slide, the Model 622 features an uninterrupted, full-length fixed top sight rib that remains stationary during cycling. This revolutionary design ensures an unmoving sight picture, exceptional target acquisition speed, and match-grade consistency. Combined with an internal hammer mechanism, crisp single-action trigger break, and European-style heel magazine catch, the Model 622 represents a prized classic among competitive bullseye shooters and rimfire collectors.
This magnificent example is an authentic Smith & Wesson Model 622 target pistol chambered in .22 Long Rifle, bearing serial number TFN1979 on the right side of the frame. Finished in factory two-tone silver, it features the desirable 6-inch barrel configuration, a full-length stationary sighting rib with a serrated ramp front sight and micro-click adjustable target rear sight, serrated combat trigger with adjustable overtravel stop, ambidextrous slide serrations, and factory checkered walnut target grips accented with silver S&W monogram medallions. The satin stainless and silver anodized alloy surfaces present in great collector-grade condition throughout, displaying clean frame contours, crisp factory lettering, and flawless wood furniture. Mechanically, the blowback action operates with silky smoothness, lockup is tight, and the 6-inch bore is mirror-bright with razor-sharp rifling. Complete with one (1) factory 12-round steel magazine, this vintage Model 622 target pistol is an exceptional turnkey rimfire for competitive target shooting or advanced S&W collection displays.
