Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Here we present an antique Winchester Model 1894 Lever-Action Rifle, made in 1897 in New Haven, Connecticut. The credit for the design of such a prolific firearm again lies with John Moses Browning, who lent his extensive design talents to a large number of weapon types throughout his career. The Model 1894 was the first Winchester rifle made for use with the new technology of smokeless powder and was developed as a hunting rifle.

Over 7.5 million were produced from 1894 until 2006. The 1894 was originally chambered to fire 2 metallic black powder cartridges, the .32-40 Winchester and .38-55 Winchester. In 1895 Winchester went to a different steel composition for rifle manufacturing that could handle higher pressure rounds and offered the rifle in .25-35 Winchester and .30-30 Winchester. The .30-30 Winchester, or .30WCF (Winchester Centerfire), is the cartridge that has become synonymous with the Model 1894. In practical use, the Model 1894 became a favorite for general shooters and hunters alike. To this day, it remains a deer hunting favorite, and, in all likelihood, more deer have been taken with the 1894 than any other.

This is an early Model 1894 Winchester SRC. It holds serial number 88,226 which puts it in the Antique category of serial numbers pre-148,000. It's in the standard carbine configuration with 20" round barrel, full magazine, carbine butt, saddle ring and 3-leaf express sights. It is chambered in the SCARCE .25-35 WCF cartridge. Designed to be light, compact, and easy to carry by horseback, most early 1894 carbines were used as utility rifles and saw harsh use. Prior to 1900, Winchester focused mostly on sporting rifles with carbines produced in smaller quantities. That said, coupled with the hard use these antique SRC's received along with their low production numbers, a good antique 1894 carbine can be challenging to find.

Conditions:
This example is in AMAZING condition showing far less than normal evidence of use for its age! A very strong example of an production 1894 Saddle Ring Carbine.
