Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Winchester Model 62 and the related Model 62A were American slide action .22 caliber rifles based on designs by John and Matthew Browning in 1888 and produced by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company from 1932 to 1958. The third and final iteration of the Winchester slide action rifles designed by the Browning brothers, the Model 62 acted as a replacement for the Model 1890 and Model 1906.

The design heritage of the Model 62 can be traced back to a patent filed in 1888 by John Browning and his brother Matthew; this would end up becoming the Model 1890, Winchester's first pump rifle design. In 1906, Winchester wanted to improve the design of the Model 1890 even further to cater to a slightly different market; by changing the barrel to a round one and marketing it at a lower price, this rifle would become the Model 1906.

By 1932, however, both the Model 1890 and 1906 were slowly going obsolete and a replacement for them had to be made at some point. So, a new rifle was designed; this became the Model 62. The rifle was introduced in 1932 and was highly commercially successful. The weapon was redesigned in 1940 to become the Model 62A, with changes mainly pertaining to the bolt. The Model 62 was discontinued in 1958, with some 409,476 examples manufactured.
