Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The FemaFegyver- és Gépgyártó Részvénytársaság ("Arms and Machine Manufacturing Company"), known as FÉG, is a Hungarian industrial conglomerate founded on 24 February 1891 in Csepel (now part of Budapest). Throughout its history it was renamed several times for various reasons; to Fémáru, Fegyver- és Gépgyár ("Metalware, Arms and Machine Factory") in 1935, to Lámpagyár ("Lamp Factory") in 1946, to Fegyver- és Gázkészülékgyár ("Arms and Gas Equipment Factory") in 1965. Decades later, in post-communist times it was renamed as FÉGARMY Fegyvergyártó Kft. ("FÉGARMY Arms Factory Ltd.").
The Femaru Model 37M is a semi-automatic pistol of Hungarian origin, originally designed by Rudolf Frommer. It was an improved version of the older Frommer 29M. The pistol was made available in two versions, chambered in different calibers. The Hungarian Army used the .380 ACP (9x17mmSR) version, whereas the .32 ACP (7.65x17mmSR) version was provided to Hungary's German allies during World War II. The German version, however, was known as Pistole Mod 37(u), pistole M 37 Kal. 7,65 mm or P37. The main difference between the two variants was that the "German" version had a manual safety, which the Hungarian version did not have.
The German version was also marked with "Pistole M 37 Kal. 7.65", Femaru code "jhv" and date, along with the Waffenamt markings. Despite being produced under more strain due to the desired production rate, it was still a reliable pistol. Approximately 150 to 300,000 pistols were completed this way. Additionally, some partially finished post-war models were issued, and there was an attempt to produce the gun after the war, but without success.
