The CZ 52 is a semi-automatic pistol created by Jan and Jaroslav Kratochvíl in the early 1950s for the Czechoslovak military. It has two official designations: vz. 52, which stands for "model of 1952," and CZ 482. Ceská Zbrojovka produced around 200,000 vz. 52s in Strakonice between 1952 and 1954. Before settling on the 7.62×25mm vz. 52, the Czechoslovak military used various domestic and foreign pistol models in three different calibers. After three decades of military service, the vz. 52 was eventually replaced by the vz. 82, which uses the 9×18mm Makarov caliber. The CZ 52 is often referred to as such to differentiate it from the vz. 52 rifle, which was introduced to the export market before the pistol.
