Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The CZ 52, also known by its Czechoslovak military designations vz. 52 and CZ 482, is a semi-automatic pistols developed by Jan and Jaroslav Kratochvíl in the early 1950s for the Czechoslovak military. Produced by Ceská Zbrojovka in Strakonice, approximately 200,000 units were made between 1952 and 1954. The pistol was chambered in the 7.62×25mm Tokarev cartridge and replaced a variety of domestic and foreign models used by the Czechoslovak military. It featured a recoil-operated, roller-locked mechanism, similar to the German MG42 machine gun, which allowed it to handle high-pressure ammunition. The CZ 52 had an 8-round detachable magazine, a single-action trigger, and a high bore axis that contributed to noticeable recoil. Its manual safety lever and spring-loaded firing pin block added to its safety features.

The CZ 52 is often referred to as such to differentiate it from the vz. 52 rifle, which was introduced to the export market before the pistol. After decades of service, the CZ 52 was eventually replaced by the vz. 82, which used the 9x18mm Makarov cartridge. While no longer in active military service, the CZ 52 remains a popular collectible due to its unique design, historical significance, and reliable functionality.
