Originally established in 1919 as Ceskoslovenská Zbrojovka Brno, the factory's early focus was on producing Mauser rifles and some handguns. By 1923, handgun manufacturing largely shifted to Strakonice, leaving Brno to focus primarily on long guns. The establishment of a new factory branch—Ceská Zbrojovka Uherský Brod (CZUB)—in 1936 marked a significant expansion. However, with the outbreak of World War II and the occupation of Czechoslovakia, German forces commandeered the Czech arms industry.
