The 541 was a popular offering from Remington and after being introduced in 1972 stayed in production until 1999. Remington produced the fine model 541X bolt action target rifles for the U.S. military as training rifles in very limited numbers. There were approximately 9000(give or take) produced from 1984-1986 under government contract for use in the marksmanship program, eventually these were sold by the CMP.
These guns featured Globe front sight with Williams target peep rear sight, hardwood stock, adjustable front sling swivel, rear sling swivel, Remington composite buttplate, and magazine fed. The left of receiver marked "US" above serial number and the top of barrel is marked with manufacturer and model.
