Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The CZ-75, designed by brothers Josef and František Koucký and first produced at Ceská zbrojovka’s Uherský Brod factory in 1975, quickly became one of the most influential service pistols of the modern era. Building on a Czech tradition of quality firearms dating back to before World War II, the CZ-75 introduced several innovative features, including a slide that rides inside the frame rails, a low bore axis, all-steel construction, a double-stack 9x19mm magazine, and a hammer-forged barrel, producing a controllable, soft-shooting pistol that helped define the “wonder-nine” category. Early production is divided into the original “short-rail” models, featuring forged frames, short slide rails, a spurred hammer, and a rounded trigger guard, and the later Pre-B models, which introduced longer slide rails, cast frames for streamlined production, and a half-cock hammer notch for added safety.

In 1993, CZ formally launched the B series, adding an internal firing-pin block safety and other refinements such as a squared trigger guard and, on many variants, a ring hammer. Collectors particularly prize both the early short-rail and Pre-B pistols, especially examples lacking U.S. import roll marks, which can indicate early or alternate import origins and significantly affect desirability and value. Decades after its debut, the CZ 75 remains celebrated for its precise engineering, ergonomics, reliability, and smooth shooting, cementing its status as one of the most respected and enduring handgun designs in history.
