Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
When they were first manufactured, the John Browning-designed Winchester Model 1885 rifles were deemed stronger than the prior Sharps rifles, and the different sight and trigger options available made them an instant hit with hunters and target shooters alike. The Model 1885 rifles were targeted at competitors in “Match Shooting,” a sport that was extremely popular from about 1871 to 1917. The Winchester rifles challenged the Sharps, Remington, Maynard, and Ballard rifles and quickly became known for their reliability and accuracy. Major Ned Roberts, the inventor of the .257 Roberts cartridge, described the Model 1885 as “the most reliable, strongest and altogether best single shot rifle ever produced”.
The Browning 1885 BPCR is a single-shot rifle with a falling block mechanism. It was first introduced in 1996. This particular Browning 1885 BPCR was produced in the same year, making it a first-year production model. The rifle features a checkered walnut pistol grip buttstock with a cheekpiece, a checkered walnut forearm, and a 30" half-round, half-octagon barrel. It comes equipped with a Globe front sight and a fold-adjustable vernier tang rear sight. The barrel is finished in blue, and the high wall frame is finished in color case-hardened which gives it a stunning appearance.
