KG is a sporting firearms manufacturer based in Ulm, Germany, that makes rimfire and centerfire rifles as well as air rifles and air pistols for target and competition shooting, as well as hunting. Anschütz rifles are used by many competitive shooters participating in the Summer Olympics 50 meter rifle events and is the maker of the standard biathlon rifle used at the Winter Olympics.
The company was founded by Julius Gottfried Anschütz in 1856 and located in the Thuringian city of Zella-Mehlis until 1945. The founding of the company took place at the beginning of the industrialization period in Germany at a time when many were seeking unity and freedom. The entrepreneurial spirit of the founder and the following generations made the small gunsmith shop grow to become one of the leading companies in Europe for rifle and pistol manufacturing. World War II put a sudden end to this story of success.
