Billed as "Autoloaders for the 21st Century," the Chiefs Special line was the final iteration of the traditional metal frame 3rd Generation S&W semi-auto line. Repurposing the classic "Chiefs Special" name long used for compact J frame revolvers, these pistols were produced in three variants, CS9, CS40 and the CS45 all of which were compact auto-loaders introduced in the late 1990s and discontinued around 2006 (The CS40 variant was discontinued in 2002).
