The CZ Model 83 is the civilian export version of the VZ 82, which replaced the previous VZ 52 in Czech military service in 1983. The pistol has a blowback action, allowing for a fixed barrel which lends itself to better accuracy than one might expect from such a compact pistol. Built with the same quality, simplicity and reliability for which Czech firearms have come to be known, this pistol would make for a nice carry gun or recreational shooter, especially for those who are a little more recoil sensitive and prefer the .380 cartridge to more powerful handgun rounds.
