Belknap Hardware, located in Louisville, Kentucky, was a hardware distributor that sold a variety of products, including firearms that were manufactured by different arms makers. One of the firearm lines that Belknap marketed was the Essex name. This shotgun could serve as a great restoration project or simply as an example of the many store-brand shotguns that are available. Belknap, like other similar companies, had shotguns made and marked with their company name, which were known as "trade" guns.
