Benelli Armi SpA is an Italian firearm manufacturer best known for shotguns used by military, law enforcement and civilians purposes. Located in Urbino, Marche. Founded in 1967 as an offshoot of the Benelli motorcycle factory that sold motorcycles through Montgomery Ward, Benelli produced the 12-gauge Benelli M3 used by American SWAT teams. Benelli and Benelli USA have been owned by Pietro Beretta SpA since 2000. They had also made a Special 80 that was almost basically identical to the standard SL-80, but was lighter due to the use of the light alloy Ergal for the receiver housing instead of steel. A Trap version was also built, which was heavier, used only a 27.5-inch barrel, a wider sighting rib with day-glo plastic front bead, and came only with a fixed choke of Improved Cylinder.
