Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Luger or Parabellum pistol is perhaps one of the most recognizable semi-automatics in history. A veteran of two world wars, these workhorses served on land, sea, and air, and were a prized war trophy for returning Doughboys and G.I.s. In addition to German Imperial and National Socialist Party military models, Lugers were also manufactured for police and civilian sales, and many were also produced under contract for other nations in Europe, the Americas, and the Middle East. Post-war versions were also manufactured by German firms Mauser and Erma, and by Mitchell Arms and Stoeger.

DWM Model 1906 First Issue Navy Issue Luger pistols are very scarce as few were produced and many of the them were reworked to the 2nd issue safety markings and/or further reworked to a 4 inch barrel configuration after WWI to comply with the Versailles Treaty. Under the Treaty of Versailles, Germany's military was severely restricted in size, and armament production was limited as well to 1000 guns per year. Many German arms were confiscated and destroyed or re-issued by the Allies to friendly nations.

We believe this example is a reworked DWM Model 1906 First Issue Navy Issue Luger. It features a reworked 2nd issue "GESICHERT" safety markings in the upper position and a further reworked 4" barrel. The top of the chamber is blank, and the front toggle has the correct "DWM" markings. It is marked with "Crown/M" Navy proof marks on the receiver and "0.168" on the front strap. It is correctly numbered in the commercial manner with the full serial number on the front of the frame and the underside of the barrel, and the last two digits (15) stamped on the side plate, take down lever, breech block, toggle assembly, and magazines.
